ENHANCING CUSTOMER EXPERIENCES - DEFINING "WHAT"

I am passionate about creating simple experiences that benefit customers.  I leverage user experience research, design thinking tools, and iterative prototyping to gather insights and identify opportunities. Scoping user research insights into an actionable roadmap with user stories and acceptance criteria that define what we seek to deliver is one of the most enjoyable tasks in product management.

While working as an Advisor through Brodell Associates LLC, I led user research and creation of a 20 + year customer journey map focused on technical tooling, impact moments, and recommendations for improvement. I have a history delivering for users and stakeholders of even the most technical products including my work leveraging user research to integrate multiple DevOps tools into software development life cycles across Capital One’s enterprise.

DEFINING "WHY"

Throughout my career I have applied data analysis, strategy development, road mapping, and project management skills to develop and launch new products. I believe that product management requires a clear understanding of business value. The best product managers preemptively answer the question: “Why should we do this?” To this end I have built a reputation for closely managing products with success metrics and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). I have written several articles about metrics, developed and delivered product metrics bootcamp trainings to over 1,000 product managers, and coached numerous teams to develop and utilize KPIs.

Responsibility for products and portfolios that include risk and data governance at Capital One and USAA have given me a wealth of experience developing tools that manage business needs.  I am one of the few product managers you will find who can balance business growth targets and risk management constraints into actionable strategies, roadmaps, and metrics.

In my work as a Digital and Technical Platform Product Director I have enjoyed developing DevOps and Data and Analytics tolling for industry-leading Fortune 500 companies.  This includes ensuring platforms are developed to enable efficient business use.

I thrive when communicating business and customer requirements to the development team and helping them ideate ways to meet those requirements and iteratively deliver. My goal is to bring out each other’s strengths and work together to accomplish big things piece-by-piece.

LEADERSHIP - BUILDING SOMETHING GREAT

Leadership and serving others are two of my major passions.  I started my career as a public servant, and my proudest accomplishment from those five years is developing and launching a new program at the US Department of State. Since then I have managed people, led teams, and coached my peers to deliver the highest quality products and experiences possible.

A passion for servant leadership in the product management community drives my career.  In 2020 I founded Brodell Associates LLC to do just that. To this day I enjoy helping teams implement product management practices, and coaching individual product people from founders and Chief Product Officers to recent graduates looking for their first product role.

I am an active leader in the product management community. I regularly present on product management and have designed and lead bootcamps for Product School and other organizations. In 2019 I founded the Technical Product Management Community of Greater DC and organized the Community’s MeetUps that year. I also actively contribute to product management dialogues as a freelance writer.
